Delayed
Start Turns into Double Overtime Tie
TAMPA
- As Friday night turned into Saturday morning, it was the same
story all over again. For the second consecutive game, the FIU women's
soccer team endured a double overtime contest, this time tying USF , 0-0.
The Golden Panthers
(1-1-2) were forced to wait more than two hours after lightning delayed the
UCF-LSU matchup preceding their game, but the delay did little to slow down
their drive. FIU took 20 shots throughout the night, including three shots

"When you're talking

Thomas Chestnutt said. "With the delay and the double overtime and the
home crowd, our players really didn't let it get to them. They came out and
got on it early and I think that was important in taking the crowd out of

Florida State Downs Stetson
3 to 0
DELAND,
Fla. - Fifth-ranked Florida State (3-0-0) registered its third
consecutive shutout with a 3-0 victory over Stetson (2-2-0) Sunday afternoon
in DeLand, Fla. After playing to a scoreless first half, the Seminoles came
out with three goals in the second 45 minutes to run their regular season
road unbeaten streak to 12 (9-0-3) straight games.
"Stetson did a good job of frustrating our attack in the first half."
said head coach
Mark Krikorian. "They defended well and defended hard. They had good
organization and we weren't quite clean enough in and around the penalty
box.
"We always talk about creating chances and if you create enough chances
the odds are with you sooner or later that one of those shots will end up in
the back of the net. Fortunately in the second half we were able to knock in
a few. Stetson gave us everything we could handle. Give credit to them, they
showed today what a hard working team can do."

Florida Defeats USF 2 to 1
The
No. 7 University of Florida soccer team (3-0, 0-0 SEC) came back from a 1-0
halftime deficit to defeat USF (1-1, 0-0 Big East) 2-1 Sunday afternoon in
front of a James G. Pressly Stadium crowd of 1,787.
The
Bulls took advantage of a Gator defensive problem late in the opening half
to take the 1-0 halftime lead. Brittany Pilon found Noelle Pineiro with
space in the box. Pineiro hit the 10-yard shot for her second goal of the
season at 44:25.
That
goal didn’t sit well with UF senior All-American Lauren Hyde. She
took responsibility for that goal and used it to motivate herself and the
Gators in the halftime locker room. It was Hyde that tied the match early in
the second half. UF was awarded a free kick after Erika Tymrak was fouled.
Hyde took the strike and her 25-yard shot hit the post and kicked in for her
first collegiate goal.

UCF Takes Down # 10 Duke
CHAPEL
HILL, N.C. (UCFAthletics.com) - A second half surge by the UCF women's
soccer team helped erase a 1-0 halftime deficit as it upset No. 10 Duke,
3-2, Sunday at the Carolina Nike Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. Senior

Knights (2-1-0) while sophomore Stacie Hubbard (Jacksonville, Fla.) tallied

"We came out very sluggish in the first half and we were lucky to only to be
down 1-0, but we changed our formation and the ladies stepped up," said head
coach Amanda Cromwell. "That was a good weekend for us to go 1-1 against two
outstanding ACC schools (No. 1 UNC and No. 10 Duke) who are both in the top
10 in one of the polls."
It was Hubbard's first-career goal and it came right after Duke tied it up
at 2-2 with 5:06 remaining in regulation. On a corner kick, senior Becca
Thomas ripped a perfect ball to Hubbard who headed it off the crossbar and
in for the game-winner with just 3:24 showing on the clock.

Jacksonville Falls To Coastal Carolina
The
JU women’s soccer team made the familiar trip down 9A to UNF on Friday but
they weren’t after the Osprey’s in this game. The Dolphins fell to Coastal
Carolina, 2-1, in a closely contested match that saw JU score its first goal
of the season.
It was a game of two halves with the Dolphins (0-2) striking first on a tidy
finish from freshman Eva Leeper. Leeper slotted a shot into the low left
corner of the net after receiving a cross from Arianne Heaton in the 25th
minute. But the Chanticleers (1-0) came back, scoring twice in the second
half on a muggy evening at Hodges Stadium.
“It was a tough game for us this evening,” said head coach Brian Copham. “We
really didn't play to our potential tonight. If we are going to be
successful we have to start playing the game the way that we want to play

were her first of the year. Ironically, Swift scored her first goal of the
